Kasuti, a centuries-old delicate and intricate embroidery art from Karnataka, India, embodies the creativity and storytelling of generations of women. Originating in the 6th century, this craft has been passed down through familial bonds, preserving the rich cultural heritage of North Karnataka.
In this project, No Borders collaborates with master Kasuti artists and artisans, such as the legendary Usha Pawar, to explore their personal journeys and the profound impact Kasuti has had on their lives. These artisans, deeply connected to their environment, draw inspiration from the region's flora and fauna, creating motifs that symbolise themes like motherhood, tradition, and heritage.
By incorporating vintage fabrics and innovative designs, the project aim to highlight the timeless beauty of Kasuti, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in its rich narrative. This project is a tribute to the resilience of women artisans and a celebration of the enduring legacy of Indian textile heritage.
