Past Forward: Remix and Collaborations in Ceramics and Glass
curator
Kristine Michael
Memories, history and stories are how we make sense of our lives and our times. They are central to art, and art is central to how we create and share these multiple stories. They mirror past and present realities, are rooted in lived experience, and act as portals to understanding change—both what has happened and what might happen. Here, artists bring these narratives to life with their unique interpretations, using a variety of artistic mediums and techniques to retell, reinvent, and reimagine them.
This creative proposition involves collaboration among contemporary and vernacular artists, working with glass and ceramics. These artists upcycle to explore new forms of creative expression. It encourages innovation of functions and the use of unconventional materials. These mediums are known for their versatility and expressive potential, and they play a crucial role in the participatory nature of artistic communication. By engaging in new and sustainable ways, artists and audiences alike can reinterpret and communicate narratives in rich and profound creative environments.
