Hands, Tools, and the Living Thread: Inside Kashmiri Craft Ateliers

This project explores the everyday environments of Kashmiri artisans, focusing on the spaces where traditional crafts are practiced and sustained. It presents an immersive documentation of workshops and homes where craft is not only a livelihood but a living cultural legacy.

Through close collaboration with craftspeople, the project captures both process and context — tools in use, materials in transition, and the rhythms of daily life that shape creative practice. The installation includes sketches, prototypes, and artifacts developed through shared dialogue and making, emphasizing the intersection of tradition and contemporary expression.

By showcasing both celebrated and lesser-known aspects of Kashmiri craft such as intricate embroidery and functional tools, the project highlights the continuity of knowledge passed through generations. It offers visitors a direct connection to the environments in which craft is lived and practiced, inviting reflection on the resilience, adaptability, and warmth embedded in these spaces.
