Urban spaces are creating fresh contestations of global capital and local realities. Carved out of terrains of multiple inhabitations, what was once ecological is becoming polluted, gentrified or destroyed.
The third iteration of the Urban Reimagined exhibition highlights the clash of imaginaries of the ‘urban’ as a means to help rethink them. It focuses on waste, an essential residue of nature extractions and mass production that is laced with irreducible materials and infused toxicity. Acting as a marker of caste and class, it creates non-spaces of the Anthropocene. Unwanted, yet without which everything would collapse.
