Featuring the finest shehnai-player of his generation, Ashwani Shankar, with Grammy-awarded Danish saxophone player Lars Møller and rising tabla star Zuheb Ahmed Khan, this concert on a cruise authentically carries the deeply-rooted Raga tradition into the 21st century with a unique sound based on years of collaboration and performances in India and Europe. The interplay between the musicians is marked by rhythmic virtuosity and an inspiration from the classical Indian tradition with traces of colors from the contemporary jazz tradition.

Please arrive at the venue at least 20 minutes before the start time, otherwise entry cannot be guaranteed.

The two complementary woodwind-instruments shehnai and saxophone offer a new and full-bodied expression of the Indian raga tradition with a distinct blend of the improvisational vocal Khyal style and the deep resonating Drupad style. The music of the trio is based on musical and personal relations developed since Lars Møller decades ago was musically adopted by Ashwani’s father Pandit Daya Shankar and grandfather Pandit Anant Lal.

This evening of sunset cruise is supported by Danish Cultural Institute and Nordic Culture Fund.
