At the Serendipity Arts Festival, Nagari is featuring themed screenings and conversations exploring how cinema reflects, critiques, and reimagines the urban experience.

Urban Form and the Politics of Space I 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Vertical City by Avijit Mukul Kishore (2011)

Vertical City examines Mumbai’s high-rise housing and the social hierarchies embedded within its vertical growth. Through striking imagery and observation, it questions how architecture shapes inequality. The filmmaker will also discuss the nuances of form, politics, and lived city. The discussion will be followed by the screening of Nagari Short Films.

Mobility in the City I 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Mera Apna Sheher (My Own City) by Sameera Jain (2011)

A reflective exploration of the mobility of women and access within urban spaces. Through personal narratives and cityscapes, the film questions who the city truly belongs to, examining safety, freedom, and identity in the everyday journeys of women. The film will be followed by the screening of Nagari Short Films.

Identity and Marginality in the Modern City I 4:30 PM - 7:00 PM 
Salim Langde Pe Mat Ro by Saeed Mirza (1989) 

The film is a powerful social drama that explores the life of Salim, a young Muslim man navigating the challenges of unemployment, marginalisation, and communal tensions in Mumbai. The film critically examines urban poverty, identity, and the pressures of modern city life on marginalised communities. The session will be followed by the screening of Nagari Short Film, यह वक़्त हमारा है (Ye Waqt Hamara Hai) by Moin Khan and Bhawna Jaimini (2021).
