Set against India’s contested political landscape, where legal documents often determine the course of one's life, Documentary Theatre in India: Assembling Publics, Performing Politics highlights the relevance of documentary theatre. The contributors to this edited volume challenge dominant narratives and offer new frameworks for understanding its cultural significance.

In this book launch editors Anuja Ghosalkar and Kai Tuchmann will share their editorial intentions behind the publication and immerse the audience in vivid examples, scenes, and exercises stemming from the cosmos of Documentary Theatre in India. There will be a live reading from the book by one of its contributors, scholar Brahma Prakash, who proposes a Documentary Theatre that works against the very concepts of documentation. Artist, curator Suvani Suri will respond to Prakash’s propositions and provocations.

Speakers:
Brahma Prakash
Suvani Suri
