Bitter Soil takes its title from Mahasweta Devi’s collection of four short stories. The exhibition with works by women artists explores relationships to land and water, the materiality of labour and production, and colonial histories and neo-colonial structures of marginalisation and exclusion. Through film, songs, sculptural installations, books and photographs, Rajyashri Goody, Reetu Sattar and the performers of the Grindmill Songs Project illuminate ways in which art can offer modes of articulation and resistance in public and domestic spheres.
