Ranjit Barot
Music

Ranjit Barot is at the forefront of the classical and mainstream popular Indian music industry, world music, and jazz fusion genres. He is the musical director for Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman's live concerts and holds the coveted ‘throne’ as the drummer for world-renowned guitar legend John McLaughlin and The 4th Dimension Band.
Melody and rhythm have always been an integral part of Ranjit’s life – he started playing at the age of 12, forging his own path as a drummer and then embarking on a formidable career of almost five decades as a much sought-after music composer, producer, and musical mentor. Son of Indian classical dance legend Guru Sitara Devi (Padma Shri awardee, 1973), who was blessed with the title of ‘Nritya Samragini’ by Guru Rabindranath Tagore himself, Ranjit was fortunate to inherit the legacy of Pandit Sukhdev Maharaj’s unique and vibrant Banaras Gharana of Kathak and music.
